Jovis is originally from Singapore and now calls London home.
Photography changed her life when she bought a camera in 2018 for the better in so many ways – sounds clichéd but it’s true. It has helped her become who she is today, opened up numerous possibilities and given her exciting, adventurous experiences.
Jovis loves travelling and is always planning her trips to coincide with her photography projects. She is always searching for extraordinary people and places to tell their stories. She feels fortunate to have found photography and does not take it for granted but feels that it’s a miracle and this little quote is a reminder to appreciate the art.

Nonagenarians & Longevity
“A Passion Project"
The genesis of this endeavour sprang from my deep passion for capturing portraits and a burning curiosity to unravel the secrets of longevity among nonagenarians living in urban environments. I sought to uncover common threads that connect these remarkable individuals.
Throughout the course of this journey, I encountered numerous remarkable souls who graciously shared their time, allowing me to capture their portraits with patience and kindness. What enthralled me most were the captivating narratives they shared.
The images showcased here mark the initial stages of an ongoing long-term photography documentary project. I am currently engrossed in further research and expansion of this project.

What inspired you to curate this particular collection of photographs for your exhibition?
This exhibition features two distinct projects. The first revolves around ongoing street photography, a continuous endeavour encompassing multiple simultaneous projects.
The second series, titled "Nonagenarians & Longevity," is a personal passion project that emerged from my profound love for portraiture and an insatiable curiosity to uncover the secrets of longevity among individuals in their nineties living in urban settings.
Could you share some insights into the creative process behind these photographs?
Extensive research, considerable travel, and substantial time investment were essential in identifying nonagenarians, forging connections with them, and conducting in-depth interviews. My approach was to rely on natural light within their familiar surroundings. I deliberately avoided staging locations or backdrops, striving for the utmost authenticity in every aspect.
What emotions or messages do you hope viewers will take away from experiencing your exhibition?
My sincere desire is for viewers to experience feelings of joy, wonder, and inspiration when they gaze upon the nonagenarians, hoping that these emotions will influence them to make wiser choices for a long and healthy life ahead. Additionally, I aim to ignite a sense of curiosity and a deeper appreciation for the incredible lives of the elderly individuals who are a part of their own lives, encouraging them to cherish and preserve their stories.
Are there any specific stories or moments from your photography that you would like to highlight in this exhibition?
I developed a deep affection for the nonagenarians I had the privilege of meeting, and their stories were endlessly captivating to me. Spending time with these individuals prompted a profound reevaluation of my own life choices, reshaping my perspective on the essence of simplicity, humility, happiness, and health. The knowledge and insights I gained from these encounters were truly invaluable, and for that, I am profoundly thankful.
The project featured in this exhibition is only the initial step in a broader documentary undertaking that I plan to delve deeper into, with the intention of sharing more captivating stories.
How do you see your photography evolving in the future, and how might that influence your future exhibitions?
I hope to improve on my storytelling skills and subject matter. I wish to make important and meaningful photographs that will draw people to come see my future exhibitions.
What has been your experience with UPC in regards to this exhibition?
