Jess Miller

Jessica is a Sussex-based photographer and curator. Her journey into photography started at a young age, having always been creative and had some kind of camera in her hand. Originally inspired by her family’s photo albums and holidays as a child, her photographic practice explores travel and place attachment typically through street, architecture, documentary, and landscape genres.

She studied Fine Art at Loughborough University, where she specialised in photography, and MA Museums, Galleries and Contemporary Culture at University of Westminster.

She curated online photography exhibition Materiality Exposed in 2020 and has worked with many galleries and arts organisations over her career including FORMAT International Photography Festival (Derby), Lighthouse (Brighton) and Aspex Gallery (Portsmouth). She is currently Deputy Online Editor at Amateur Photographer magazine where she manages social media and community relationships, and has also managed exhibitions for music photographer Jill Furmanovsky, Abbey Road Music Photography Awards and the International Amateur Photographer of the Year competition.

She is also a regular on awards judging panels including International Amateur Photographer of the Year, World Sports Photography Awards and British Photography Awards.

Jessica is part of the Urban Lives exhibition team and will be designing and curating the final layout. She understands, at a deep level, that how work is presented is just as important as the work itself. She brings a level of thoughtfulness, intention and respect that will ensure every photograph is seen, felt and experienced in the way it deserves.
